The Unexpected Reason Why Men Love Curves

The Unexpected Reason Why Men Love Curves

Once upon a time, the word ‘thick’ was purely used to describe things that had a relatively large distance between two sides. Think: “the book she carried was thick” and “there’s a thick layer of dust on the windows”.

Today, popular culture has expanded the meaning of ‘thick’ and given it a whole new sexual connotation. According to Urban Dictionary, ‘thick’ (sometimes stylised as ‘thicc’) refers to:

“A woman with a perfect body, filled in places that are, by nature, designed to attract the opposite sex, such as the thighs, the hips, the breasts, and the most lovely part of all, the booty.”

Got a slim waist and wide hips? Congratulations, you’re thick!

In all seriousness though, it might seem puzzling why men are attracted to a woman’s curves. No disrespect to our ladies on the skinnier side but there’s just a little something extra with thick ladies!

So what’s the underlying reason behind this?

It seems that the answer lies in evolution. And fats.

Slim Waist, Wide Hips, Instant Attraction

In a landmark research conducted by the late Devendra Singh, she found that men rate women as most attractive when they have a waist size that’s 60 to 70 percent of their hip size.

And guess who is the archetype of the ideal female body type that’s most attractive to men?

Playboy Playmates! Remember when they used to be a big deal in the 90’s? With a bust-waist-hip size of 35-23-35, this means that her waist is 66 percent of her hip size. Talk about crazy standards!

However, having a tiny waist is just one part of the equation of what makes Playmates so curvy. The other part of the equation lies in fats.

The Miracle Of Your Lower Body Fat

Here’s an interesting fact: the total amount of fat a human female carries is seven times that of other animals, and much more than men!

What’s more fascinating is that most of it is stored in her legs and hips. And this is exactly where men admire.

Unlike upper body fat, lower body fat is largely unaffected by fluctuations in weight shifts. Yes, lower body fat is infamously stubborn to get rid of as most of us would know. Oh, the struggle!

Our frustration might be unwarranted though, as you’ll be pleasantly surprised to read the next part.

Stubborn lower body fat is not a bad thing at all. In fact, it seems that lower body fat serves a far greater and nobler purpose than expected.

Lower Body Fat & Brain Development

The human brain contains a lot of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which is an omega-3 fat. It is an incredibly vital resource in the growth and development of a human baby’s brain.

However, omega-3 fats cannot be created; they have to come from what we eat, after which they are stored somewhere in the human body.

So where is this DHA then stored? You guessed it - it’s stored in women’s hip and leg fats. Most of the DHA in a mother’s milk comes from what she has stored all these years in her lower-body fat. Incredible!

Why Men Love Curves

Without knowing it, it appears that men are attracted to a woman’s curvy figure because it signals an abundance of DHA supply

In addition, a smaller waist signals that she is less likely to be a mother so her potential to bear children is completely untapped. Not only that, women with those curves also tend to be perceived as more fertile. Isn’t that interesting?
